Default Setting up Fido internet on an unlocked AT&T Samsung Jack

I know there are some tech gurus on this board so I thought I'd ask..

My mom got a Samsung Jack AT&T model unlocked and she wants to hook it up with a Fido data plan. We've been told by Fido that you need to wipe the software and put the Fido software on it to set up the internet but that doesn't seem right to me. Shouldn't you just be able to program the server settings somewhere?

Any help is appreciated. Model # is SGH-I607

took me 3.42 seconds (dunno if it works mind you )

What are Fido's GPRS settings? (#741

    Account 1:
    Name: FidoWAP
    APN - wap.fido.ca
    User: fido
    password: fido

    Account 2:
    Name: FidoINT
    APN: internet.fido.ca
    user: fido
    password: fido

then, to set up WAP, create a Wap profile with the following:
    Name: Fido
    Connect using: FidoWAP
    Gateway: 205.151.11.11
    user: fido
    password: fido

    OR

    homepage: wap.fido.ca
    session mode: permanent
    connection security: off
    data bearer: GPRS
    GPRS connection: when needed
    GPRS access point: wap.fido.ca
    IP address: 205.151.011.011
    authentication type: normal
    login type: automatic
    user:fido
    password:fido

I hope one works for you!

the fido settings are easy to find. what i'm having trouble doing is finding out where you enter the settings on the AT&T specific software.

download the service manual for the phone, and it will tell your where to put the WAP settings that scone gave you.

    BE CAREFUL!!!!

data is charged at 5 CENTS per kilobyte!!!!!

the data plan on a jack is different from the other phones, it's a windows mobile package (starts at $15 for unlimited email and i think 2mb surf)

if you use the data without the plan
it's straight up 5 cents a kilobyte. load a 150kb html webpage (WM6 uses HTML web surfing) for instance
do the math.. thats $7.50 FOR ONE PAGE.
there was a huge uproar because apparently when they launched this phone, the reps didnt understand that it wasnt compatible with other plans and unlimited data program, you can imagine what happened, lol, $400-1500 data bills left right and center.

the jack is a pig on data, so if she plans on using it, get a big ass data plan unless it's just for emails.

otherwise, ive got the fido version, love it.
the only beef is the data bullshit, it SHOULD apply to regular plans, but it doesnt.pfft.
and if your mom wants any apps for it just let me know

    ps
the jack cant use the WAP settings, the Internet Explorer on it will ONLY connect to the Fido GPRS gateway.

to add the settings for GPRS do as follows..
    Start>Settings>Connections>GPRS>New

and this is the account you should create

    Name: FidoINT
    APN: internet.fido.ca
    user: fido
    password: fido

fidoINT is the one you will use for email and websurf , you dont need the WAP setting. also fido does do not guarantee an unlocked handset from another carrier will not recieve EXTRA data charges.
